I am concerned about the ongoing allegations that some prisoners – who are Falun Gong practitioners in China – may have had their organs ‘harvested’ against their will and then sold.
If such a practice is proven to exist then it would be a clear breach of human rights.
The first such allegation was made in 2007 by a hospital nurse who claimed at least 4000 people had been operated on. She also claimed her husband, a surgeon at the same hospital, had removed a cornea from a live patient. The claims were also investigated by Canadian Human Rights Lawyers.
I believe it is now time to have an independent look into the allegations which is why I have signed Written Declaration 48/2016 calling for this to happen and for any such practices which may be taking place, to stop.
