I was interviewed about Brexit by Vanessa Feltz on BBC Radio London today. I am always happy to offer guidance and advice about Brexit.
The Supreme Court ruling this week has cemented the issues surrounding the triggering of Article 50, ruling that it needs an Act of Parliament to be invoked. This has now been introduced and is being debated right now.
We have to remember though that the British people voted to leave in June 2016 and I hope that the democratic will expressed in that vote will be upheld as Parliament debates the issues.
Vanessa did ask me if I was doing myself out of a job? But, my priority in politics has always been to ensure your is heard and that is what I am doing.
I also explained that from discussions I’ve been having with colleagues in Brussels, everyone wants a good working relationship with the UK and that ultimately the deal needs to be in the best interests of both sides.
How long will this take? Well, I reiterated what our Prime Minister has already said, that we hope negotiations will be finalised by the end of 2018, if not, certainly by 2019.
