Dear Editor, May I appeal to readers to help London’s kebab shops get the recognition they deserve at the forthcoming British Kebab Awards.

No scoffing please! These awards are a big deal to the kebab industry covering a range of businesses from fine dining restaurants to your local kebab house.

Kebab businesses make a huge contribution to the economy and the people who run them are hardworking, enterprising and deserving of recognition.

It is fair to say these gongs are the Oscars of the spicedsnack world and the competition is suitably hot.

London has some of the finest kebab shops in the world, never mind Britain, but the judges will only hear about them if they are nominated by customers.

So please take the trouble to vote for your favourite at the awards website: www.britishkebabawards.co.uk.

Whether you are a supporter of the sheesh, a doner devotee or a kofte connoisseur, make sure you have your say while celebrating some of the capital’s kebab cuisine.

Yours faithfully,

Syed Kamall, MEP for London.
