Interviewed by the Daily Telegraph about whether Covid-19 is accelerating a shift in global power and shaping a new world order, Syed Kamall, professor of politics and international relations at St Mary’s University, said there was likely to be much more scrutiny over whether international bodies were fit for purpose. There had been questions over whether the WHO had concentrated too much on lifestyle diseases, and moved away from preparing for disease outbreaks, he said.
“Are these international organisations that have grown sometimes away from their initial remit, are they doing too much? That’s where the pushback and the criticism will start coming in,” he said.
