Many tech firms I talk to say there is a lack of programmers and coders and they want to attract the best talent from around the world. One of the ways we have been trying to tackle this for a few years is with the ‘Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa’. The scheme is handled by TechCityUK.
A few years ago tech firms were telling me that the scheme was too complex and there wasn`t enough awareness about it, so I am delighted to see that the number of people being applied for and approved has quadrupled.
I know there are a lot of questions among the tech community about what will happen after Brexit. Of course we will need to continually improve the scheme, but I hope this shows that the UK is very serious about welcoming the best and brightest tech talent from around the world, and not just from the EU.
