I have been contacted by a number of constituents who are concerned about the treatment of  the gay men in Chechnya.

Particularly, constituents are concerned about the violence committed against the gay community and the opening of concentration camps for gay men. My constituents are concerned over the alleged violence and crimes committed against men for their real or perceived sexual identity.

Can the Commission confirm:

  1. if it is aware of the state of the treatment of gay men in Chechnya?
  2. if it has raised its concerns with the Chechen authorities?
  3. what action it intends to take to address the treatment of the gay communities in Chechnya?
