2015 was not a good year for the EU, so what can we learn from last year?

2015 was not a good year for those dreaming of a United States of Europe. The EU once again showed why it does not work in its present form.

The migration crisis saw national leaders making announcements which put pressure on other EU countries. The Schengen agreement appeared to fall apart as some countries felt the need to restore borders while others argued it was wrong.

As the EU struggles crisis after crisis, it demonstrates the limits of a one-size-fits-all EU for 503 million people living in 28 different countries and situations.

It really doesn’t bode well for the dreams of the single European super state supporters.

On a positive note, what it does show is the weaknesses and how with reform the EU could possibly be made to work much better for everyone.

In my article for Conservative Home, I explain why I think 2015 was a bad year for the EU and perhaps more importantly what we can, and should, learn from that.
